Moving to Florida from the Northeast can be a whole lot of fun, but the drive isn’t. The trek from New York, Maryland, Virginia and so on can be long, made especially so by the worries that go along with moving.

When my family moved from Upstate New York to Florida, I remember the drive being the worst part of the deal. While I would have normally seen it as an adventure, the long trek with so much work waiting at the end of it just didn’t sit right.

While the Amtrak car shipping service only departs from Lorton, Virginia, (near D.C.) and arrives in Sandford, Florida, it most certainly removes most of the hassle. Lorton is fairly easy to get to from anywhere in the Northeast and Sandford is just about dead center in Florida.

After reading this, I really wish my family had known about Amtrak car shipping when we made the Sunshine State our home. It sure would have made our Florida moving adventure a whole lot more fun.

Amtrack Needs to Expand Auto Shipping Service

Seems like Amtrak is always crying about losing money and looking for more public support for its train service. It just seems to me that they are missing a huge opportunity.

With all the interest in buying vehicles online nowadays, at sites like eBay, people need auto transport services to get the car, truck, SUV, RV, etc. to its new location. There's a ton of interest from people looking to transport their vehicles on Amtrak, but currently Amtrak only offers one line where you can bring your car with you, and that runs from Virginia (around Washington, DC) to Florida.

Well that's just find and dandy for those needing to ship cars to or from Florida by train and maybe even Florida movers, but it just seems to me that if Amtrak were willing to add more routes where you could bring cars with you it would open up a whole new market for them. Not only people needing to get cars and other vehicles from one point to another, but what about those people who'd really like to tour the country using Amtrak, but have to rent a car or get stuck near the train station once they get to their destination? Wouldn't it make tons of sense to allow Amtrak passengers to bring their cars with them on the trip? What a great way for tourists and seniors to get to see the good ol' USA!

I'm thinking this could be a good revenue generator for Amtrack, while at the same time providing an important vehicle shipping service to train passengers.

Did you know that Amtrak offers auto transport service if you are moving your car, truck, RV or SUV between the DC area of Virginia and Florida?

The Amtrack service allows you to bascially take your vehicle with you on the ride. So, for example, if you purchased a car in Florida or surrounding states on eBay, you could either take the train or fly down, pick up your car or other vehicle and then hop on board the Amtrak train and bring your newly purchased vehicle with you. That way the vehicle stays with you the whole time. You get off the train and then drive your new car to its destination. Works in reverse, too. Pretty cool, huh? Who knew?
